Aubrey (Buddy) Johnson was born December 25, 1942 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
He grew up in Texas: Nacogdoches, Pasadena, Conroe, Liberty.
Buddy was saved May 26, 1956 and surrendered to the ministry March 8,
1964 and surrendered to missions July 1972. He was ordained
April 4, 1965.
Previous pastorates include:
Macedonia Baptist Church in Etoile, Texas 1965-1967; Friendship Baptist Church in
Jacksonville, Texas 1967-1970; Hillcrest Baptist Church in Texarkana,
Texas 1970-73.
Missionary experience:
Buddy served a total of
27 years in Mexico (1973-1999) and then returned
to Hillcrest in Texarkana as pastor from 1999-2004.
Background information:
While a student at Jacksonville Baptist College Buddy surrendered
to the gospel ministry. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree
from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Masters of Arts
in Religion from the BMA Theological Seminary.
He was married to Martha Lucas of Burleson, Texas on September
12, 1965 and they had five sons: Grady (May 23, 1967), Scott
(September 21, 1969), Eric (May 27, 1974), Jon and Ben (March
23, 1979) and a daughter, Sara Xochitl (March 2, 1985). Martha
passed away in September of 1991 after having worked with
Buddy for 18 years in Mexico. They had been married 27 years.
In 1992, he married Taffy Ann Bell from Waxahachie, Texas.
Taffy was born October 15, 1967 in Waxahachie, Texas and grew
up there.
She was saved February 1977.
Mrs. Johnson received a Bachelor of Arts from Baylor University
in Waco, Texas. She has taught Spanish and Government. She
spent nine years in Mexico with the family before their return
to the United States.
Grady is a missionary in Mexico and Eric is pastor of the Hispanic
Church in Jacksonville, Texas. Buddy and Taffy have four grandchildren:
Alan and Amanda (Grady’s), Logan (Ben’s), and
Audrey Lee (Eric’s).
The Johnsons are working with local churches in the U.S. in
the planting of Spanish-speaking churches. Their plans are
to help coordinate the Hispanic churches in their relationship
with the BMA of America. Also, they are aiding the Hispanic
churches in their relationship with other Hispanic churches
in the states. A main aspect of their work is to help in the
formation of leaders for the new Hispanic churches. Buddy’s
program is called FLECHA, Forming Leaders by Evangelizing
Contacts in Hispanic Areas.
